Pilot Project – Spring/Summer 2022 

We are launching the new Stream Video Platform powered by YuJa in the Spring/Summer 2022 Term as a pilot project.

Why is this a pilot project?

During our testing phase, we learned that users who have permission to upload to the public video portal require administrator access. As a result, they have access to the following course / org shell data:

  1. uploaded media content and quizzes
  2. personally identifiable information (PII): first and last names
  3. usage analytics

Currently, there are 30+ users – designated organization admins, media services, and DMP support – who can access this information. As a result, we are restricting public channel access to one (1) designated user per department only. Instructors/staff with private content must accept that administrators and channel owners will be able to view the listed data above.

What is being done about this privacy issue?

We are constantly working with the vendor to urgently apply a fix. The fix will allow administrators to give non-administrator users the ability to publish publicly if needed. We will update with a release date once we are notified.

Getting Started 

Faculty and staff

The Stream Video Platform is available as a third-party tool on D2L Brightspace on a pilot project starting Spring 2022. If you are interested, please fill out the google formStream Video Platform Request Form, external link.

All faculty and staff can access the platform by adding it to their course shell or organization shell on D2L Brightspace. If you do not have an organization shell on Brightspace and would like to use this tool, please Request an Organization Shell.

Students

Students can access the platform through their course shell. Contact your instructor if you are not sure where to access the tool.

Note: Students are not permitted to use the platform for uploading and media sharing purposes.

Request to post publicly on Stream

The default faculty and staff access provides the user the ability to share with members of their course or organization. There may be use cases where an event needs to be shared publicly, such as convocation ceremonies, guest lecturers, promotion videos, etc. In these cases, we can grant users a Sub-Admin role.

If you require access to post publicly on behalf of your school, department, or organization, please fill out the google formStream Video Platform Request Form, external link.

Not sure if this is the right tool?

If you need to:

  • share videos within a D2L Brightspace course, school, organization or department;
  • add a quiz within a video;
  • analyze viewer behaviour using reports and data analytics;
  • allow students to add personal notes and comments within a video

Then the Stream Video Platform is right for you.

The DMP also offers other tools that might be helpful for other use cases.

If you need to: Use:
  • Record portions of your lecture
  • Record quick tutorials

Zoom

  • Ask students to record video or audio assignments
  • Provide spoken feedback to students

D2L Brightspace

  • Store a backup of video or audio files that are not currently being shared
