Stream replaces Ryecast as Toronto Metropolitan University’s video streaming platform
Ryecast is no longer available as of April 30, 2023. Video content and related files that were actively used on Ryecast have been moved over to Stream. If you have any questions, please contact us at dmp@torontomu.ca.
Why are we ending Ryecast access?
Ryecast lacked many of the modern features of a streaming platform as TMU supported it over the years. In Summer 2020, CCS embarked on a project to find a new home for video streaming that met our changing requirements. The search committee found YuJa Enterprise Video Platform to meet the needs of the TMU community.
Getting Started
Faculty and staff
The Stream Video Platform is available to be added as a third-party tool on D2L Brightspace course shells.
All faculty and staff can access the platform by adding it to their course shell or organization shell on D2L Brightspace. If you do not have an organization shell on Brightspace and would like to use this tool, please Request an Organization Shell.
Students
Students can access the platform through their course shell. Contact your instructor if you are not sure where to access the tool.
Note: Students are not permitted to use the platform for uploading and media sharing purposes.
Request to post publicly on Stream
The default faculty and staff access provides the user the ability to share with members of their course or organization. There may be use cases where an event needs to be shared publicly, such as convocation ceremonies, guest lecturers, promotion videos, etc. In these cases, we can grant users a Sub-Admin role.
If you require access to post publicly on behalf of your school, department, or organization, please fill out the (google form) Stream Video Platform Request Form (external link) .
No. While we will be migrating your videos to the Stream Video Platform, you will be required to manually update all Ryecast links and embedded codes in web pages as they will not automatically redirect to the new platform.
Yes! Training sessions on the new Stream Video Platform will be made available later this summer. How-to-guides are currently available on the Stream Video Platform (integration with Brightspace) page on our website.
Content owners may also request a one-on-one consultation with our staff by completing the Digital Media Projects Request Form.
Not sure if this is the right tool?
If you need to:
- share videos within a D2L Brightspace course, school, organization or department;
- add a quiz within a video;
- analyze viewer behaviour using reports and data analytics;
- allow students to add personal notes and comments within a video
Then the Stream Video Platform is right for you.
The DMP also offers other tools that might be helpful for other use cases.
