Community Safety and Security

The safety and wellbeing of the TMU community is the top priority of Community Safety and Security. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, TMU Security provides round-the-clock coverage of campus, and engages in community-centric initiatives aimed at enhancing the resilience of the surrounding neighbourhood. 

What should I do in an emergency?

  • In an emergency or if you have immediate safety or security concerns, call 911.
  • Pull duress stations: Activate a blue pull station to be connected directly to TMU Security.
  • Push emergency buttons: Activate a blue push station to be connected directly to TMU Security.
  • Blue pole or emergency stations: Pull the button and TMU Security will immediately be dispatched to your location. To locate an emergency phone on campus, use the legend feature on the TMU campus map.

Supports and Resources

WalkSafe Program

A 24/7 service that pairs you with a uniformed security crew member to escort you to various locations on campus, including the subway and nearby parking lots.

TMU Safe Mobile App

TMU Safe is the university’s mass notification tool that will immediately alert you of urgent situations that pose an immediate safety or security risk. Community members are encouraged to download the app and sign up for text messages.

Emergency Procedures 

Familiarize yourself with TMU’s emergency procedures to learn what to do in the event of an emergency situation, such as fires, active attackers or a medical emergency.

SORT Pilot Project

TMU’s Strategic Outreach and Response Team (SORT) works with community partners to collaboratively address security concerns impacting our campus community and the surrounding neighbourhood.

Harm Reduction

Community Safety and Security provides front-line harm reduction response to security and emergency-response related issues and concerns on campus.

Training and Workshops

Attend training programs or workshops that will empower you to take action to respond to concerning or aggressive behaviour.

Theft Prevention

Access tips for protecting your personal belongings and property while on campus and learn what to do in the event of a theft.

Community Partnerships 

Learn how TMU is forging strong community partnerships to address safety and social challenges through a multidisciplinary approach.
