Hello, hello, hello.

I’m Hadiqah, and I’m in my second year of the Journalism program here at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). I seriously couldn’t be more excited to be one of your student ambassadors for this school year! It still feels unreal to say, by the way.

I’m from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), and commute to campus for my classes by taking the TTC (external link, opens in new window) . I don’t think that I am a pro, but hopefully by helping you prepare for university, I can also learn a few things myself along the journey.

While writing this, I’m trying to think of cool things about myself... My favourite book is As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh. It’s the first book that has ever made me feel something. I could talk about it forever, but I won’t start. I love watching movies too — especially coming-of-age ones and maybe a bit of horror as well. Have you seen The Truman Show, or Beautiful Boy? The Greatest Showman? So good.

Outside the window display of a shop named BMV books.

BMV Books is my favourite spot right across campus located at 10 Edward St.

I also love philosophy and understanding the ins and outs of the world. Although, is it just me who finds it hard to put philosophical concepts into actual words? How do I ask someone “why is there something rather than nothing?” I’m still figuring it out.

I will say that I’d always wanted to do something related to business (I thought I’d own my own ice cream parlour by now). At the last minute on the day of applying for programs, I came across Journalism at TMU! It combined my hobbies including graphic design, video editing and of course, writing. It felt right to enrol and share my story, and the untold stories of people around the world who don’t have the things we do. As a Muslim Pakistani-Canadian, I hope to shed light on Islamic truth and bring a fresh perspective on topics we don’t see in the media!

Photos scattered around with a polaroid of a lake, a movie ticket, and a postcard.

Postcards and Polaroids of all things I love.

I hope this wasn’t too long? It’s kind of scary now that I’m no longer hiding, but I’m so ready to take this on and connect human-to-human with all of you. Hopefully you find a friend in me and our lives get easier as we navigate our next steps together.

Okay thank you, thank you, thank you, for reading up until here. Bye now.
