Meet Carly! One of This Year's Student Ambassadors

Hey there!

My name is Carly, and I’m one of five students taking on the role of student ambassador this year! I am so excited to share all sorts of content with you, especially tips and tricks to keep you grounded during your university experience.

I’m currently in my fourth and final year of Professional Communication at The Creative School and last year I completed my minor in Public Relations. So far, I have had an incredibly fulfilling university experience. Some highlights include working a marketing internship with Guru Studio, a Toronto-based animation production company this past summer and getting to attend my favourite courses, Countercultural Communication and Strategic Storytelling.

I am also a huge fan of student group opportunities! For the last three years, I’ve been an executive member of REC (external link, opens in new window) , the university’s entertainment conference. After being an events lead for my second and third year, I was lucky enough to be promoted to president for this year. I love that I’ve gotten to know so many other students across the university through this student group, as well as industry professionals I’ll hopefully get to work with one day.

When I’m not trying to finish all my readings at the Student Learning Centre (SLC) (opens in new window)  or working on panels for REC, I try to spend as much time as possible watching the newest and best movies and TV shows. I am a huge awards show buff and need to have my finger on the pulse of pop culture at all times. I’m currently watching The Sopranos, Superstore and Sex Education (I know, a weird mix). Look out for lots of watchlists from me throughout the year!

Aside from TV and movies, I love to spend my spare time exploring Toronto. I’m originally from Montreal, and exploring the city helps me combat the internalized feud between my hometown and my new home. I think the best way to get to know a new city is through its food, so I spend a lot of time searching for cool restaurants in all sorts of neighbourhoods around the city. I’ll definitely recommend a few over the next little while.

One of my favourite vegetarian restaurants in Toronto is Shook Kitchen, pictured here!

I’m thrilled to be back on campus this year with a few in-person classes this semester and look forward to a year of bringing great content to students (and future ones, too) with my fellow student ambassadors!
