The opportunity

The Bridging Divides (BD) research program offers an Internship Program designed to provide training, mentorship, and paid employment to TMU undergraduate students who self-identify as being part of underrepresented and equity-deserving groups.

In order to participate, the student must identify a Bridging Divides faculty Research Supervisor. The Research Supervisor will train and mentor the undergraduate student with the skills needed to build their academic and professional careers. Undergraduate underrepresented interns support Bridging Divides in addressing migration research knowledge gaps in Bridging Divides' four main research themes (opens in new window) : 1) Immigrant Health and Wellbeing, 2) Employment and Lifelong Learning, 3) Place and Infrastructure, and 4) Citizenship and Participation. The internships provide a distinct opportunity for undergraduate underrepresented students to gain transferable research skills in preparation for their future career prospects such as graduate school or the job market.

Bridging Divides has allocated eight internship positions at $15,000 per student. The internships can be taken full-time, 30 hours per week in the Summer, or part-time, 15 hours per week in the Fall and Winter semesters for a maximum of 16 weeks in each semester.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for an internship, interested students must meet eligibility requirements:

How to apply

In order to apply for the Bridging Divides Undergraduate Underrepresented Internship, interested students must identify a Bridging Divides faculty Research Supervisor. A list of potential supervisors is available in the student application form (external link, opens in new window) . Students are expected to independently reach out to their potential supervisor with an expression of interest in the internship. Once both the student and supervisor are in agreement, they will each submit an application form to complete the application process:
