What your future favourite TMU building says about you

Hey, it’s Ido, fourth-year Image Arts: Film student and your Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) student ambassador. One of the things you’ll observe pretty quickly about TMU’s campus is how different many of the buildings are. There’s a combination of historic buildings and newly constructed ones across campus. Beyond superficial architectural differences, I’ve found that many of the buildings have a unique character. Learning where someone prefers to study can tell you a lot about them. Here’s what some of your future favourite TMU buildings might say about you!

Kerr Hall

If your future favourite building is going to be Kerr Hall, it probably means it’s tricky to figure you out. That's because you’re a puzzle… the enigmatic type. Regardless of your program, Kerr Hall has lecture halls where many electives run. It's also got science labs, the Fashion Research Collection and more. Kerr Hall has a first floor, sure. But in some ways, it has a few first floors. If that doesn’t make sense to you, you haven’t yet been through the rite of passage that is doing laps searching for your class on your first day. Once you become one with Kerr Hall, instead of understanding it, you’ll find that it somehow just becomes navigable. If it takes a while for people to figure you out, it’ll come as no surprise if Kerr Hall becomes your favourite building.

The 4 sections of Kerr Hall engulf the grassy Quad.

Rogers Communications Centre (RCC)

Known as the hub for many programs in The Creative School, if your favourite building ends up being the RCC, you are, in the best way possible, a professional yapper. Whether you’ll be broadcasting live on Met Radio from the Allan Slaight Radio Institute or delivering a news report from the Arthur Smith Virtual Production Studio, you’re probably a strong communicator with lots to say. If your friends’ heads collectively turn to you when a teacher poses a question to the class, the Rogers Communications Centre is going to be your spot.

Recreation and Athletic Centre (RAC)

You’re a RAC-star and everyone knows it (you make sure they do)! And, why not? If you’re going to take advantage of the state-of-the-art workout equipment and facilities, along with the fitness classes and intramural sports, you’ve got every reason to spread the word. Getting a workout in before or after a class improves your focus and your well-being. Whether making gains is the name of your game or actively socializing is your ideal pastime, if you plan for the RAC to become your second home, rock on. By the way, your membership is included in your student fees!

Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM)

You mean business. You're ambitious. Driven. You enjoy starting every day with at least 3 bizarrely long flights of escalators because rising to the top is what it’s about for you! That said, you also know that it takes a team to support you behind the scenes! You can take advantage of TRSM’s supports, like the Business Career Hub and the PASS Office, where you can sharpen your vision of your academic and professional careers.

Library Building

Though you may be the quiet type, you’ve got a loud imagination. While you should be studying, it’s possible you’re manifesting a meet-cute from the movies by aggressively reading performatively. You’ve got as many stories in your head as there are books in the library. You’re not on your own, though — you very possibly find yourself focused (or perpetually preparing to lock in) in bookable group study rooms with like-minded peers.

Study carrels in the TMU Library.

There are so many buildings and unique spaces that make up the TMU campus. Regardless of how you like to study, socialize or unwind, there’s bound to be a building that’s a perfect match for you. If you’re curious about experiencing the campus for yourself, book a campus tour or explore TMU’s virtual tour anytime.

Until next time,
Ido, your student ambassador
