7 Best Student Discounts in Toronto

Discounts! We love to see them. And being a post-secondary student comes with a lot of discounts!

Toronto in particular is home to multiple post-secondary institutions, so it’s no surprise that many businesses in the city offer something a little special to us students.

Here are seven student discounts that you need to check out:

1. GO Transit

The GO Train

As of March 14, 2022, GO Transit is increasing the student discount from 22.5% to 40% off the adult fare!

The discount only works for rides paid through a PRESTO card. Make sure you also apply for a GO Transit Student ID Card (external link, opens in new window) . Once you’re approved, simply bring a PRESTO card to any GO station kiosk to have the discount applied.

2. Metro

Even if you’re on a budget, you shouldn’t have to eat junk food all the time.

Rejoice in the fact that participating Metro stores (including the one right by campus at 89 Gould Street) offer students 10% off groceries on Tuesdays.

3. Royal Ontario Museum (ROM)

A dinosaur fossil at the Royal Ontario Museum

In the mood to view some natural history or cultural exhibits? Students enrolled full-time at a Canadian post-secondary institution receive free general admission every Tuesday (external link, opens in new window)  to the ROM.

To claim your free ticket(s), email info@rom.on.ca with your name, phone number, postal code, date and time of visit and school name.

If you feel like visiting the ROM on a day that isn’t Tuesday, students can still get a general admission ticket (by presenting a student ID) for $18. That still beats the adult ticket price of $23!

4. Bulk Barn

If you’re in need of a sweet treat or you’re just looking to stockpile on salty snacks, Bulk Barn has you covered with 10% off regular-priced products every Wednesday! Just make sure to bring your OneCard with you.

5. Basil Box

A bowl of Tom Yum soup

Located just behind the Student Learning Centre, this fast casual restaurant inspired by the tastes of Southeast Asian street markets offers 10% off any of their boxed dishes upon presentation of a student OneCard.

Fun fact: the owner and founder of Basil Box (opens in new window)  graduated from our university!

6. Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)

Don’t think I forgot about all of you commuting to campus via the TTC! Students can purchase a TTC Monthly Pass (external link, opens in new window)  at a reduced price.

For $128.15 (as opposed to $156 for regular adults), students get unlimited travel on the TTC for the duration of the month.

7. Student Price Card (SPC) Program

I have saved the best for last because this isn’t just one discount—it’s a gateway to more than 450 (external link, opens in new window)

With a $10 purchase of a one-year SPC Program membership, you can get massive savings at hundreds of partner stores including:

  • 25% off full-priced items and 15% off sale items at Adidas (online only)
  • 10% off purchases at American Eagle (in-store and online)
  • 10% off full-priced items at H&M (online only)

Note that the discounts outlined in this blog are accurate at the time of publication. Be sure to verify what is currently being offered by these organizations when you’re on the hunt for discounts. May your wallets be put to ease and your minds even more so!
