Drop by HQ at 110 Bond Street and join us for our upcoming Dismantling Party on March 28th!
Together we will transform old university-branded T-shirts into a creative and versatile textile material you may know as T-shirt yarn!
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Indigenous leadership, The Standing Strong Task Force, and allies across campus, our school formally changed its name to Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in 2022. But what happens to all the old branded items? From t-shirts to stationary, there's a plethora of materials that can't be simply discarded. That's where you come in.
Feel free to swing by anytime during the event and stay as long as you like. Our friendly staff will guide you through the process, and the Innovation Studio is fully accessible to everyone. Whether you're dismantling a little or a lot, every contribution counts towards reducing waste.
Brought to you by The Design Fabrication Zone (opens in new window) , The Fashion Zone (opens in new window) , The Transmedia Zone (opens in new window) , and The Branded Materials Transition Project (opens in new window) .
This event is BYOFS (Bring Your Own Fabric Scissors). We do not have enough fabric scissors to supply all participants.
Let's dismantle old branded merchandise that's no longer in use and turn old t-shirts into T-shirt yarn (or tarn for short). This DIY material is crafted from recycled cotton T-shirts cut into strips and stretched into yarn-like loops. T-shirt yarn is favoured for its durability and versatility. It is ideal for knitting, crocheting, and weaving projects, offering a unique look and feel while reducing waste.
