Rezwana Rahman
In this UHRN Research Documentary, Rezwana Rahman, a nurse, researcher, and PhD student at Toronto Metropolitan University, discusses her research on the “sandwich generation” — individuals who care for both their children and aging parents.
Her work focuses on second-generation Muslim immigrant families in the GTA and explores how caregiving is shaped by migration, faith, culture, family responsibility, and health equity.
Rezwana’s research was inspired by her experiences as a nurse, caregiver, and founder of SaraaSits, where she noticed a gap in research and support for families navigating intergenerational caregiving. While many resources focus on retirement and long-term care homes, her work highlights families who value aging in place because of cultural, religious, and personal beliefs.
Through this research, Rezwana aims to better understand the shared experiences of caregivers, create space for connection, and advocate for stronger services and resources for caregivers, aging parents, and children.
