Ilona Niemi

Ilona Niemi is a global compliance executive in insurance and financial services, with her most recent roles as the Group Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) at Co-operators Group and CCO at Zurich Insurance in Canada. Prior to that, Ilona held global positions in compliance and public affairs at Zurich Insurance Group in Switzerland, as well as in management consulting in Europe and North America. She serves on various boards and organizations, including her co-chair role of industry groups at WomenExecs on Boards, the advisory council for the Ted Rogers School of Management Law and Business Program, and the advisory board and faculty for the Osgoode Hall Law School Regulatory Compliance Management Program.

Ilona has a PhD and MA from Ludwig-Maximilians University, a Master from Georgetown University, and has graduated from programs such as Women on Boards at Harvard Business School, Finance and Accounting at Columbia Business School, and Oxford AI at Saïd Business School. Ilona is the author of the book "EU Council Presidency in an Enlarged European Union" and is actively publishing and speaking on boards, ethics and compliance oversight.
