COVID-19 Vaccination Policy & Entry Requirements at Athletics & Recreation Venues

Update May 1, 2022: TMU's vaccination policy and daily health screening requirement through RyersonSafe have been suspended.

 Last updated February 9, 2022

The following policies and procedures apply at all TMU Athletics & Recreation facilities, venues and events. Policies and procedures differ dependent on whether you are a student, staff, faculty or visitor as outlined.

Vaccination Requirements

All current TMU students, staff and faculty are subject to TMU’s policies and processes, including submission of proof of vaccination. Please see Ryerson’s COVID-19 Information and Updates on Vaccinations for further details.

This temporary policy, enacted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, is a hybrid of the provincial legislation relative to sport and recreation facilities, external link and Ryerson’s internal policies based on legislation specific to post-secondary institutions.

Effective September 22, 2021 and updated December 20, 2021 until rescinded:

  1. All visitors, spectators, external user groups and contractors (“visitors”) age 12 and older, will be required to be fully vaccinated as defined by the province, external link and provide their proof of vaccination in the form of an enhanced vaccine certificate with QR code, external link as well as proof of identity (such as a driver’s licence or health card) in order to gain entrance to the venue.
  2. Age-based exceptions:
    1. Youth under 12 will not be required to show proof of vaccination; however, proof of age is required, and if they are accompanied by someone over the age of 12, that individual is subject to the policy and must show proof of vaccination.
    2. Effective December 20, 2021, youth ages 12-18 are required to show proof of vaccination, as per the updated provincial legislation, external link. Anyone 12 years of age or older is required to be fully vaccinated in order to gain entrance to Ryerson venues.
  3. Exemptions: If exempted, users are also required to produce a documented negative COVID result from a test performed within 72 hours of entrance.
    1. Medical exemptions: Individuals who cannot receive the vaccine due to medical reasons will be permitted given they meet the provincially established requirements for medical exemption, external link
    2. Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) exemptions: The Ontario Human Rights Commission has issued a statement related to protected grounds-based claims for exemption, external link. Please contact recreation@ryerson.ca for more information.
  4. The policy and relevant exemptions may be amended over time to reflect evolving provincial legislation, public health guidance and vaccine eligibility.
