Leanne graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1996, and was called to the Bar of B.C. in 1997, and Ontario in 2004. Her career and life has taken her on a flavourful journey, starting within the Ministry of the Attorney General in 1997-2001, where she worked on family law matters. After moving to Ontario, she worked at a family law boutique firm, until her appointment as the inaugural director of Osgoode Hall Law School’s Mediation Clinical Program. From there, she enjoyed directing the Career Development Office at UofT’s Faculty of Law, until opening her own family law practice from 2013-2018, namely “Shafir Law”. Leanne practiced all realms of family law, settling primarily on resolving disputes through collaborative practice and mediation. In 2018, she returned to Osgoode to manage their Career Development and Experiential Education Offices, until shifting to the Lincoln Alexander School of Law in August 2020, to enjoy first her role directing Student Experience, and now, as the Director of the CDPPO. Outside of work, Leanne has returned to school every 10 (ish) years, completing her LL.M (ADR) and her M.ED. She has 2 young adult children, 3 step-children, and a puppy. She loves anything that takes her outdoors, including running, hiking, paddling, and cycling.
