DR. JENNIFER TUNNICLIFFE WNS THE FACULTY OF ARTS STUDENTS' CHOICE TEACHING AWARD

Dr. Jennifer Tunnicliffe is the recipient of the inaugural Faculty of Arts Students’ Choice Award. Based on student nominations, it celebrates a faculty member’s demonstrated excellence in, and commitment to teaching. Outstanding teaching may be measured by enhancing student engagement, curriculum (re)development, classroom innovations, new experiential educational opportunities, interdisciplinary teaching, in addition to commitments to anti-racism, anti-oppression and/or decolonization in education.

Dr. Tunnicliffe is a human rights historian who teaches courses for the Department of History on Human Rights in Global History (HIS 475), the Fight for Rights in North America (HIS 350), and Crime and Punishment in Modern Canada (HST 503). Dr. Tunnicliffe will present HIS 475 and HST 503 in the coming fall term, and will offer HIS 350 as well as HIS 500 History and New Media during the winter.

In her letter of congratulations the Interim Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Amy Peng, noted that the Award Selection Committee was “particularly impressed to see the students’ enthusiasm for Dr. Tunnicliffe’s focus on human rights from an anti-oppression and anti-colonial perspective.” In their nominations, students expressed their appreciation for the support, guidance, and mentorship that Dr. Tunnicliffe provides, inside and outside of the classroom. The award was presented at the Faculty of Arts year-end-celebration in May.

Congratulations Dr. Jennifer Tunnicliffe.
