Summer Programs

In April 2022, Ryerson University changed its name to Toronto Metropolitan University. Our new name better reflects our values and promises a future filled with possibilities, and will be implemented in a phased approach. Learn more about our next chapter.

Faculty-Led Programs

Many Faculties and academic departments run international programming for students during the Spring/Summer term. For more information about this type of programming visit our section on Faculty-Led Programs

If you are interested in participating in this type of activity abroad check in with your home academic department and faculty to see what may be available. Opportunities are often promoted on department websites and via email. For example, the Creative School has a list of International Intensives abroad available on their website.

These activities include:

OUI Summer Programs

Popular summer abroad programs for students are offered through Ontario Universities International (OUI), external link. Students can study a language, carry out research or learn about local culture through summer programs offered at partner universities in China, India, Germany, or France.

OUI Program Types

Note that the programs listed below are subject to change depending on availability. Check the specific program websites for more information.

How to apply to an OUI Summer Program

The deadlines for OUI research based summer programs are generally set for mid-December. The deadlines for all other OUI summer programs are generally set for late January/early February. Students should reach out to the Global Learning Team (global.learning@ryerson.ca) well in advance of the summer term they wish to apply for to confirm exact deadlines.

Each summer program has a distinct online OUI application. Read carefully through the application guidelines of the applicable OUI program linked above. Once you complete and submit the online OUI application, you will receive an automatically generated pdf file showing all the information you have provided. A copy of the OUI application file and required supporting documents, must be sent to the Global Learning Team (global.learning@ryerson.ca) by the applicable deadline.

External Summer Programs

Many of our partner institutions around the world offer short-term summer programs in a range of subject areas and disciplines.

Summer programs are generally regarded as 'short-term' programs that are distinct from exchanges. This means you pay tuition and/or program fees directly to the host institution.

How to Apply:

Program requirements and application procedures vary by institution. Please visit the program websites, listed below, for further information regarding application guidelines.

Ryerson International does not play a role in the application process for the international summer programs.

Credit:

If you wish to receive credit for your time abroad, you will need to complete the Letter of Permission (LOP) process prior to departure.

Cost:

Students must pay program fees directly to the host university organizing the summer course/program. Some of the institutions listed below offer a discounted program fee to students who are from universities with whom they have an existing student exchange agreement with. You should check with the university directly to see if Toronto Metropolitan University is a partner and if you are able to access a discounted rate.
