Learn beyond the classroom with the Global Justice and Change (GJC) Program.

Explore the world outside the campus while completing your degree. You can bring your education to life with a fully funded global learning experience.

The GJC Program invites you to explore topics on a global scale - from the tapestry of African traditions to a literary voyage through Haudenosaunee culture and wisdom- using an equity and justice-oriented lens. Applicants can choose one of two Spring 2024 intensive courses with a travel component to either Aotearoa (New Zealand) or Senegal.

Applications are open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents who self-identify as Indigenous, Black, or racialized, students with disabilities, and low-income students.

The GJC program is funded by the Government of Canada’s Outbound Student Mobility Pilot Program and led by TMU Global in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Community Services.

Applications for the 2023/24 GJC cohort are now closed.

Our Vision

TMU Global’s vision for global learning at home and abroad refers to activities that engage with the diversity of the world’s cultures, knowledge systems, worldviews, perspectives, and nations (i.e. diverse ways of knowing and being).

Our hope is that these activities are shaped by Toronto Metropolitan University’s unique vision to advance equity and community inclusion, alongside our community’s commitment to prepare students to face the world’s interconnected, global challenges while respecting and engaging with diverse, multifaceted perspectives and approaches.

Report: Equity, Access and Inclusion in Global Learning Abroad

Release Date: Nov. 4th, 2021

The report includes data from the 2018-2019 academic year and a demographic assessment of global learning participants based on the university's  Student Diversity Self-ID Report (opens in new window)

The report also outlines what we heard from students in our March 2021 Symposium, where students from equity-deserving groups reflected on the barriers to engaging in international activity, their unique experiences abroad, and the ideas they have to improve programming for future participants.

This report was funded by the Government of Canada's Outbound Student Mobility Pilot Program, administered by Universities Canada.
