Digital Media Experience Lab
The Libraries’ Digital Media Experience is a place where students, staff and faculty come to create, collaborate and explore digital media tools through the TMU Libraries. Located in SLC 308, the DME is a primarily drop-in space that offers the TMU community one-on-one tutorials that teach TMU Libraries users how to create using emerging tech and Digital Media, including Virtual Reality, 3D Printing and the Adobe Suite.
Workshops & Training
The DME offers drop-in tutorials to small groups, as well as scheduled workshop events. Our beginner-focused workshop lineup includes offerings such as:
- Photo Editing with Adobe Photoshop
- Arduino
- Sewing
- Studio lighting

Skills Badges
As part of TMU Libraries’ badging program, the DME Lab offers a growing list of LinkedIn-friendly digital skills badges that recognize learners' skills developed inside the Lab. After completing a workshop, learners will automatically be eligible to apply for a skills badge through our workshop system.
3D Printing
The DME offers staff-assisted and self-service 3D printing at no cost to TMU Libraries users. Please visit the DME 3D Printing page for information on printing certification and booking a training.
Bookable Lab Resources
While some of the DME’s makerspace equipment and workstations can be used on a drop-in basis, specialized equipment requires booking in advance, including:

Content Creation Equipment Lending Program
The Library Circulation Desk has a variety of content creation equipment available to TMU Libraries for up to 48 hours, including:
- DJI Wireless Microphone System
- Manfrotta Video/Photo Tripods with Fluid Head
- Amaran Mini Tube Light
And more!
The first time you borrow equipment, you will need to complete and submit an online Library Technology Lending Agreement Form (external link) before requesting equipment.

Media Creation Studio Access
The Library operates a Media Creation Studio space, open to all students. Booking priority is given to academic projects, but users have created content for start-ups, passion projects, as well as student clubs and organizations.
In the studio, students can:
- Shoot photography projects with our flashes/lights
- Shoot video projects such as interviews
- Record audio for podcasts and music
- Live-stream with a multi-cam set up
After completing a room use quiz, first-time users are invited to attend staff-supported hours.

Repair Cafe
Bring your damaged or broken household items to the Repair Workshop and give them a second life by learning how to repair them yourself!
