Building an Inclusive Community

We know that sport spaces and communities have a long history of being unwelcoming to and unsafe for 2SLGBTQ members of our community, and especially trans folks (see 'Unsafe Spaces' in Egale's Every Class in Every School report (external link) ). In an effort to build a more welcoming community, our staff are trained in 2SLGBTQ inclusive principles, and all gender change spaces and programs are available.

While we are committed to making all programs and spaces safe and inclusive year-round, we know making time and space in combination with active community outreach can help break down barriers.

In partnership with Positive Space at TMU, we invite you to participate in the programs highlighted below, one part of the broader Trans Awareness Month events happening this November.

RESTORE WITH LISA

A recovery class that includes yoga-style flows, stretching and foam rolling to leave you feeling relaxed and centred.

SPIN, CORE & STRETCH WITH JASON

Take care of your body head to toe with 25-30 minutes of cycling, 5-10 min of core work to help with posture and a 10-15 minute full body stretch!

CARDIO DANCE PARTY WITH STIVA

From Bhangra & Bollywood, to Hip Hop, Latin Dance and everything in between, this class has something for everyone in an energy packed workout, so much fun that you’ll actually forget you’re working out!

YOGA WITH DIONE

A traditional style that uses classical yoga postures and stretches with a focus on alignment and breath to develop flexibility and relaxation at a comfortable pace.

DANCE FIRE WITH DIONE

This dance fitness workout is intended to keep your body moving while listening to today’s latest music. DanceFIRE infuses bursts of high energy dance moves with resistance training and core conditioning, guaranteed to improve your wellbeing and put a smile on your face as you jam to some of your favourite beats!

Inclusive & Accessible Change Spaces

In keeping with TMU's broader efforts to create safe and accessible washroom spaces for trans and gender diverse members of our community, we respect everyone's right to choose the change space and washroom that is appropriate for them. In addition to our traditional women's and men's spaces, the following options are available to all members of our community.

Beyond Trans Awareness Month

November is an important month to recognize, support and celebrate trans communities, but we're here for and committed to making you - and everyone - feel welcome and safe all year long.
