Joy Ayooluwa Adedeji

(University of Ibadan)

A motivated young researcher and a sociology of development masters scholar with a keen interest in gender studies, migration, climate change and sustainable development. My academic path has been shaped by commitment to understanding how environmental and socioeconomic issues impact vulnerable groups, especially young people and marginalized communities in Nigeria.

I obtained a bachelor's degree in sociology, where I gained a strong foundation in social research, community development, inequality and migration, working on attaining my master's degree has aided in polishing my analytical and research skills in development-related fields.

I worked as a research assistant at the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), where I contributed to data gathering, analysis and fieldwork broadened my exposure to multidisciplinary and policy-centered research. My interest in evidence-based solutions to societal problems grew as a result of my involvement with initiatives at NISER which addressed social policy, development and climate change.

Also, I have contributed to academic and field-based projects that study indigenous knowledge systems, public perceptions of the impacts of climate change and urban community resilience. My leadership training has also improved my teamwork,
communication and community engagement capacity. Beyond the classroom, I have a strong interest in community development programs and gender activism, especially  health education for young women and girls. My long-term objective is to support research and policy creation in the areas of gender inclusion, migration, climate governance and sustainable development in Africa.
