Sojourner San Vicente is a midwifery student at Ryerson University. Prior to the commencement of her midwifery studies, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

Sojourner has worked on various volunteer projects within African, Caribbean and Black communities in Toronto and across Canada. As a student midwife and future midwife, she is particularly invested in increasing awareness of midwifery care to Black Canadians and encouraging Black youth to consider midwifery as a profession. Annually, she participates in accompanying Midwifery faculty to UofT’s Summer Mentorship Program where she speaks with youth from marginalized communities who are interested in pursuing healthcare professions.

Sojourner is one of the Research Assistants for the Colour of Birth project. She is looking forward to sharing the contributions of Black midwives, and midwives of colour to Canada, with the world.
