Dr. Sedef Arat-Koç
Dr. Sedef Arat-Koç is an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration, and a member of the Yeates School of Graduate Studies, at Ryerson University. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Toronto. Her Ph.D. thesis is entitled Peasants, Hegemony and the Politics of “Normal Times”: The Cases of the Republican Peoples’ Party and the Democrat Party, Turkey. She also holds a Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor of Arts from Bogazici Üniversitesi (Turkey). Dr. Arat-Koç joined the Department of Politics and Public Administration in January 2006. Before coming to Ryerson, she was Associate Professor at the Women’s Studies Program and the Department of Sociology at Trent University. Sedef’s current work focuses on “whiteness” in Turkey as a cultural, political and class identity in the context of neoliberalism and post-cold war geopolitics.
TMCIS occupies space in the traditional and unceded territory of nations including the Anishnaabeg, the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, and territory which is also now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. This territory is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, as well as the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas.
