Dr. Judith K. Bernhard is Professor in the School of Early Childhood Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University and a former Fulbright Scholar. Her research is focused on the field of early childhood specializing in migrant and mixed-status families. Herself a Latin American immigrant to Canada, she experienced firsthand the challenges of students and their families and has devoted a lifetime to finding pedagogies that demystify the educational system and empower families and educators to build on students’ potential.  Dr. Bernhard has lectured internationally in both Spanish and English in Spain, Aruba, Puerto Rico, Chile, and the United States.  Her publications appeared in journals including International Migration, Educational Policy Analysis, The Early Years Journal, Intercultural Education, Journal of Regional Studies, Journal of Early Childhood Teacher Education, Teachers College Record.

TMCIS occupies space in the traditional and unceded territory of nations including the Anishnaabeg, the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, and territory which is also now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. This territory is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, as well as the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas.
