April 17 Lunch & Learn Poster - 1

The seminar was co-hosted by the Toronto Metropolitan Centre for Immigration and Settlement (TMCIS) and the Centre for Studies in Food Security (CSFS).

Description:

This event featured an enriching exploration of ethnic and immigrant food experiences, delving into discussions around food access, food culture and food liberation across the life course. Discussions explored diverse narratives about food experiences, how food access and practice shift and change throughout one’s life and how those changes can be unique to one’s cultural background. We looked at the experiences of children and youth in the context of school lunchrooms; the cultural, financial, and systemic factors that influence food access for international students; engaging young adults in food sovereignty; and the cultural appropriateness of food in seniors’ congregate dining settings and meal delivery programs.

Dr. Zhixi Zhuang - Academic Director, TMCIS

Dr. Sara Edge - Associate Director, CSFS

Panellists:

Yukari Seko - Associate Professor, School of Professional Communication
