What does it mean to be a Black TMU grad?
I am proud of the growth I have witnessed at TMU as a journalism student who started at this school when it was still called Ryerson University. TMU indicated to the rest of the world that it is possible to rewrite history and do right by Indigenous people. As a Black woman, I believe that we will only end racism when the white privileged end performative truth and reconciliation for Indigenous people as well as direct efforts to not only renaming but also to reparation.
What advice do you have for other Black students at TMU?
She quotes Paul Anthony at FoodShare Toronto, “Imposter Syndrome can consume you as a Black person, walk into spaces like you belong.”
