Farewell summer, hello Journalism student, Hadiqah!

Hello future Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) students!

I’m so glad to be back talking to you again this year! My name’s Hadiqah and I’m a third-year Journalism student at TMU. I loved writing for you all about the cool stuff I experienced around campus during my second year and providing tips on navigating the university experience — so, here I am once again.

Time is moving by so fast that it’s unreal to think about how I’m already in my third year. It feels like summer break just started, but I couldn’t be more excited to be back on TMU’s campus.

Since I’m already talking about this past summer, I went to London, England with The Creative School! We learned about artificial intelligence through fashion, architecture and technology. I loved sitting in the kitchen and watching Gossip Girl until 4 a.m. with my best friends, getting iced coffees before class and hearing British accents everywhere I went. It’s really an experience that I’ll never forget.

Thousands of books fill the walls of the dark academia Daunt Books store in London, England.

Since it was just a short walk away, I visited Daunt Books too many times while I was attending classes in the University of Westminster.

I also turned 20, which actually terrified me since I’m no longer a teenager. Now, over a month in, it really hasn’t been that scary after all. It might feel like time is changing for you as you enter a new stage of your life, but I promise that making your own decisions and achieving what you’ve wanted to do since you were young is such a rewarding feeling.

Recent passions of mine are visiting local coffee shops and bookstores, both close to home since I’m a commuter and around TMU. This last summer I read The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, a book about living life despite the regrets you may encounter along the way. Also, visiting Germany in August gave me the opportunity to up my Bollywood music taste after being around my South-Asian family for a bit. Who knew that exploring European culture would incite this obsession in me over again?

Hundreds of books lay scattered on the shelves of the earthy café, Covernotes Coffeehouse.

Covernotes Coffee House on Yonge St in Richmond Hill is such a nice place to sit, read and do nothing in a calming environment.

Autumn is just around the corner and I couldn’t be happier to be back on our campus. With more to share about my time in London with The Creative School, annual events taking place in Toronto and bringing my favourite campus activities to light, I’m looking forward to sharing more of my experiences with you this upcoming year! Thank you for such an awesome time last year (if you were an early reader), and I can’t wait to connect with you all over again these upcoming months!

Bye for now,

Hadiqah
