Hello again from Claire, a fourth-year English student!
Hey!
I might be a familiar face to you already — I’m Claire, a fourth-year English student at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). I’ve spent the summer creating lots of content for future students like you here on the Future Student Blog, and I’m thrilled that I’ll be continuing this journey throughout the academic year!
I thought I’d catch you up on everything that I’ve been up to this summer. When I wasn’t working as a Digital Marketing Assistant, I spent most of my time attempting to read some of the books that have been sitting on my bookshelf. One of the books that I managed to finish was Funny Story by Emily Henry (external link, opens in new window) , which is a fun romance that I’d recommend to anyone who is looking for a light summer read.
One of the many paintings that I saw at the AGO — this one is by Claude Monet.
Alongside reading, I also visited art galleries like the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) (external link, opens in new window) , went out for weekly dinner and gelato dates with friends and watched pretty sunsets by Lake Ontario. I also took a few online courses through The Chang School of Continuing Education (opens in new window) . One of my favourites was CMUS 520: Women in Popular Music (opens in new window) , which I took as a six-week intensive course. It examined the role of women in popular music throughout history, which was the perfect choice for a pop culture-lover like me.
I discovered that Burlington Beach is a pretty cute spot to watch a summer sunset.
Since I just started my fourth and final year of my degree (which still sounds strange to say), I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’d like to do after I graduate. Should I pursue graduate studies? Should I travel? Even though I’m still figuring out the answers to these questions, I’m comforted by the thought of connecting with future students like you along the way.
Okay, that’s enough of me stressing about the future. This school year, I’m really looking forward to exploring more coffee shops near campus so I can find a new go-to study spot for the fall months. The top two spots on my list right now are Bulldog Coffee (external link, opens in new window) and Hailed Coffee (external link, opens in new window) , but I’m also open to trying any place that is recommended to me. I’d also like to attend more on-campus events so I can get the most out of my final year as a student at TMU, and make my commute from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) worthwhile. Attending on-campus events always reminds me how much of a second home TMU truly is.
That’s everything new with me. Make sure to keep an eye on our blog so you can hear more from current students like me and learn about all of the opportunities that TMU has to offer. There are lots of exciting things coming your way soon!
Talk to you later,
Claire
