Meet Isabel

Hello, hello!

My name is Isabel, and I’m one of two student ambassadors who’ll be contributing regularly to this blog throughout the school year. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity and am looking forward to sharing the ins and out of university life with you all!

This year has been a year of new beginnings for me. I’m starting my first year of Business Management at Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM). This is actually my second year at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) since I switched programs back in the spring. I had originally applied to the Professional Communication program here at TMU, but after speaking to some peers who were studying at Ted Rogers, I realized that business was the path for me. I’m hoping to specialize in Marketing and minor in English. English was always my favourite subject in high school, and accompanied with my love for writing, I’m looking forward to expanding my learning in university.

My first year at TMU gave me a chance to explore the school’s student life and get more involved. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love being on the school's dragon boat team (external link, opens in new window)  (expect to hear plenty about it). It’s a varsity club that runs year-round and we compete against other universities across the country. For those who don’t know what dragon boat is, picture a canoe with 20 people in it, racing at 14 kilometres per hour, with one person at the back steering and one person at the front yelling commands. My team and I had the opportunity to spend the summer racing at different regattas across Toronto, as well as at the national level in Welland, Ontario.

When I’m not paddling, you can often find me at either the Recreation and Athletic Centre (RAC) or at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC) getting in a workout. Otherwise, you can catch my friends and I studying together at the Student Learning Centre (SLC) or traversing the streets of Toronto on a quest for the best cafés in town. So far, Dineen Coffee Co. (external link, opens in new window)  is a personal favourite and within walking distance of campus! 

I’m also a huge reader and I will always be ready to talk to you about my current read. At the moment, I’m about halfway through One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and am enjoying it very much!
