Stay Active with TMU Recreation
Did you know as a Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) student you have FREE access to an all-inclusive membership for our athletics and recreation centers, the Mattamy Athletic Center (MAC) and the Recreation and Athletic Center (RAC)?
That's right, it’s included in your tuition costs, so all you need is your OneCard to access — it’s that easy. Tap it on the scanner by the front desks at either facility, and you're good to go! For those days where you forget your Onecard, there's an app called TMU Recreation that you can also use to get access.
The front entrance of the MAC, leading up to the front desk, fitness center and Varsity Home Court.
The RAC south entrance located in the Quad.
If you're looking to get a workout or two done in between classes, Recreation has you covered. The MAC and RAC aren't just places to go and lift weights (if that's not your thing, don't worry) — there are many other ways to utilize the spaces! Whether you want somewhere to practice dancing or break a sweat doing a spin class, TMU Recreation has something for everyone. I personally love the free yoga and spin classes!
Digging deeper, let me break down what each facility has to offer:
Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC):
50 Carlton Street (external link, opens in new window)
Ice Rink
Located on the third floor and home to our very own TMU Bold hockey teams, MAC offers recreation drop-in shinny time slots and free skate times. Bring those skates!
Varsity Home Court
This court has many uses, including where the outstanding TMU Bold volleyball and basketball teams practice and host games. Watch a game here or get your own playtime during drop-in recreation times!
Topline Studio
Used as a space to stretch and do floor workouts, this studio is a great, private space to go at the start or end of a workout. Some free instructional classes are also held here.
Recreation and Athletic Centre (RAC):
50 Gould Street
Bookable Squash Courts
Two separate bookable squash courts are available for you and your friends to play individually or together. You can book a squash court online, or with the help of the staff at the front desk.

Located above the RAC gyms, the track is great for those who love running, but prefer to not use a treadmill. With views of what's going on in both gyms, it’s cardio with more entertainment.

This six lane, 25-yard pool is adored by many. It offers drop-in lane swim, women-only, Trans + Gender Diverse Swim and group or solo swim lessons.
Cardio Room
A designated space for those who love everything cardio. Treadmills, stairmasters, elliptical machines — you name it!
Group Fitness Classes
Held in various parts of the RAC, classes ranging from yoga to Muay Thai are held at different times throughout the week, and are led by amazing, engaging instructors!
Drop-in Sports
Separate from open gym times, the RAC 1 and RAC 2 gyms have scheduled times for people to play for specific sports. These include badminton, soccer, basketball, table tennis and more.

During my years at TMU, recreation has always played a large part in my life. Having a great time with friends playing soccer and making connections with the lovely, welcoming Recreation staff has always lifted my spirits. Also, knowing that staying active directly plays a role in academic success, I knew I had to check out these facilities as soon as I could.
