Nishka's Winter Semester Goals

I realized that every semester I’d set goals for myself, but they aren’t always reasonable. For the winter semester, I decided to stay true to myself and jot down things that aren’t too challenging to accomplish. I hope this gives you an idea of what to expect when setting goals for yourself as a university student.

Journal every day

The best thing about journaling is that you can cater your journal to your needs. Personally, having a daily to-do list is useful so I can visually see my tasks at hand. I like to check things off as I do them, which makes me feel more accomplished. In addition to this, journaling can help you practice your creative writing skills, and  learn more about yourself. You can find journal prompts online or create your own. This semester, I’m trying something new by using my journal for writing prompts and having my to-do lists on an online planning software. Every day before going to bed, I’ll spend a little time writing as a part of my nightly routine.

Actively attend classes

In the time of virtual learning, I’ve noticed that some of my professors post recordings of their lectures, and I don’t end up attending the live classes since they aren’t mandatory. I have decided to change this because I realized how much I missed out on asking questions, building connections and learning in real time. To help me with this, I have a Google Calendar with all my online class links and locations to stay on top of them. This, in combination with my to-do lists for every day outlining my classes, will help me stay on top of things. An additional goal to go along with this one is to attend office hours to ask questions. When I don’t have questions, I will still go to learn from other students’ questions.

Make my bed every day

Whenever my bed is made, I feel as if everything in my life is organized (even when it’s not). By making my bed, it will allow me to start off on a good note. This in turn will set a positive and productive tone for the rest of the day. My goal is to make my bed every morning as soon as I step out of it. Hopefully this will encourage me to keep my room clean too!

I know these goals may seem small, but each and every one of them contribute to having a good semester. I hope they inspired you to set your own!

“See” you soon!
