2024-2025 Student Leadership Committee
The 2024–2025 Urban Water Student Leadership Committee (SLC) made a strong impact through environmental action and student engagement. They partnered with TRCA to plant over 100 trees and shrubs on TMU’s downtown campus, with a second planting planned for Spring 2025, and worked closely with TMU’s Sustainability Office and Facilities staff. The SLC also led a successful Yellow Creek cleanup and hosted creative social events like algae painting, movie night, and cookie decorating. Thank you to the SLC for your leadership and commitment to building a greener, more connected Urban Water community!

Student Events and Initiatives
In Summer 2024, the Urban Water Student Leadership Committee showed amazing initiative by engaging TRCA's Restoration and Resource Management team to plant trees in the downtown. Their ambition is resulting in more than 100 new trees and shrubs planted across TMU's downtown Toronto campus in Fall 2024, with a second, student-led planting event in Spring 2025 in partnership with TRCA's Community Outreach and Education team. The SLC has been coordinating with TMU’s Sustainability Office and Facilities Maintenance staff to bring this all together.
This initiative is an important example of integrating environmental remediation into extremely urban environments. The students within Urban Water TMU have been activated and are seeking additional ways of cleaning up and remediating their downtown urban campus.
Well done Student Leadership Committee!
On May 16th, the Urban Water Student Leadership Committee was joined by various Urban Water students and researchers to clean up Yellow Creek! This event was well attended and they were able to collect several bags of garbage!
The Urban Water Student Leadership Committee recently hosted a series of events aimed at fostering social connections among peers. Students came together to paint with algae, enjoy a cozy movie night, and express their creativity through cookie decorating. These activities provided a fun and relaxed environment for students to connect, unwind, and strengthen their sense of community!
