Urban Water Hosted Downstream 2025!

November 21, 2025

On November 21, 2025, Urban Water at Toronto Metropolitan University welcomed students from over 8 universities, early-career professionals, and water sector leaders from across Canada to Downstream 2025!

Downstream is a unique professional development experience in partnership with Water Canada that brings future water professionals together with experienced sector voices in small group discussions. The format encourages direct dialogue on career pathways, emerging trends, and opportunities shaping the future of water management, policy, and innovation in Canada.

Participants gained practical career insights and firsthand exposure to the diversity of roles across the water sector, from utilities and government to consulting, research, and advocacy, all while building meaningful connections that will support their professional journeys.

The energy throughout the afternoon reflected the enthusiasm and determination of emerging professionals ready to make a difference in water stewardship and sustainability. This event highlighted Urban Water’s commitment to fostering inclusive spaces where early talent can connect, learn, and imagine pathways into impactful careers.

We extend a huge thank-you to the experts who generously shared their time and expertise. Special appreciation goes to: Sumant Patel, Christina Cholkan, Tim Fletcher, Trudy Watson-Leung, Dean Young, Joe Accardi, Enrico Stradiotto, Stephanie Melles, Gordon Mitchell, Ranin Nseir, Gregary Ford, and Phil James.
