Title: It’s mine but you took it: Understanding victims and perpetrators of knowledge theft
Description: Knowledge theft—the deliberate claiming of credit for others’ ideas or work—poses a hidden but powerful threat to organizational knowledge management efforts. This phenomenon, while well-recognized by many at work, is relatively understudied in the management literature. In this talk, I present the results of three papers that establish the construct of knowledge theft, demonstrate how organizations can mitigate the toxic emotional effects of theft on victims, and explore some of the trait and situational factors that predict who will steal knowledge.
