Silver linings playbook: Students place second in Microsoft Office competition

Congratulations to Ted Rogers School of Management students April West, Vladimir Poliak and Sarah Nguyen for each finishing second in their challenges at the Microsoft Office Specialist Canadian Championship.

The Microsoft Office Specialist Canadian Championship, hosted by CCI Learning, is a National Competition that tests student’s skills on Microsoft Office applications. The top 10 students with the highest exam scores were invited to compete at the Canadian National Championship on June 21, 2022.

West (Real Estate Management student and Bootcamps co-facilitator) claimed silver in the Microsoft Excel event. While she had tied for top spot, the event organizer had to crown the winner based on who completed their exam first. Despite this, West qualified to participate in the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship in Anaheim, California because the first place winner already competed in a previous World Championship event.

Poliak (Business Technology Management) won silver in the Microsoft Word challenge and Nguyen (Business Technology Management) received similar honours for Microsoft Powerpoint.

This is a notable achievement for West and Poliak who both just completed their first year at the Ted Rogers School.

"The students' performance at this national Microsoft Office competition demonstrates the power of our Bootcamps, which support the journey to becoming Microsoft Certified and have taught over 1,100 students the skills most sought after by employers,” says Aakifah Luthfee, Manager, Bootcamps and Stakeholder Engagement.

For their second place finishes, each of the students are set to receive a $1,000 CAD scholarship, medal of achievement and certificate.
