Lung Imaging Activity

The Quantitative Image Analysis in Medicine Team (external link, opens in new window)  at Ryerson University, led by Dr. Miranda Kirby, does research to better understand lung disease using medical imaging.  Medical imaging is used to take pictures of the parts of the lung that have damage or disease.  Her team of researchers then use “image processing techniques” to separate out the parts of the lung with disease to determine the severity. This research provides valuable information to clinicians so they can better understand how to treat patients with lung disease.

Thanks to Miranda Kirby, Ryan Au, Sarah Kadhim, Xavier Bauza, Huma Asghar and Meghan Koo for creating these activities for Science Rendezvous!
