How Lessons from Spinning Coins Can Improve Healthcare

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Open School chapter at Toronto Metropolitan University, or simply IHI Ryerson, was formed in 2017 and aims to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals on quality improvement and patient safety. The student group is comprised of a multidisciplinary team hosting workshops, panels, case competitions, and quality improvement projects regularly. The team is also involved in advocacy efforts.

One of the best ways to improve healthcare is by testing a change and collecting data. But how is this exactly done? This activity will introduce the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle, explain its relevance to healthcare through a real-life case, and end with an interactive spinning coin activity suitable for all ages to solidify the topics discussed.
