February 8 marked another milestone for the School of Medicine: our first in-person event at the school's future home in Brampton. We were thrilled to host a fireside chat with three wonderful panelists:

Dr. Teresa Chan, dean of the School of Medicine and vice-president, medical affairs at TMU
Angela J. Carter, advisor, strategic initiatives at Roots Community Services (external link)
Dr. Ripudaman Singh Minhas, a developmental pediatrician at St. Michael's Hospital (external link)

In a coversation moderated by Dr. Roberta Iannacito-Provenzano, provost and vice-president, academic at TMU,. Angela, Dr. Chan and Dr. Minhas shared their insights on how we can foster greater health equity in Brampton and surrounding areas, and how we can transform medical education to train doctors who are culturally competent, intentionally inclusive and ready to be agents of change.

In delivering his opening remarks, Mohamed Lachemi (external link) emphasized the TMU School of Medicine's commitment to building a school where cultural awareness and humility are as integral as medical expertise, and stressed that this fireside chat is part of an ongoing community dialogue that will shape the future of healthcare and medical education.
