On July 17, 2025, the Ambassador of Canada to Guatemala, Olivier Jacques, welcomed FLACSO Guatemala Director Marcel Arévalo, alongside researchers Ana Lucía Chávez and Rosario Martínez, for a courtesy visit. The meeting was also attended by Christine Faveri, Head of Cooperation, and Sonia García, Officer of the Cooperation Program.

The delegation shared updates on FLACSO’s ongoing initiatives, including several in partnership with Canadian cooperation. A key focus of the meeting was the project "Complex Migration Flows and Multiple Drivers in Comparative Perspective (2022–2028)," led by Toronto Metropolitan University and funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) through a Partnership Grant. The project is implemented in Central America by FLACSO and forms part of a broader global initiative spanning the Americas, Asia, and Africa, involving 38 academics and 32 partner organizations.

Discussions also touched on cross-cutting themes, including community engagement, collaboration with local governments, gender equality, youth inclusion, sexual diversity, and academic and technical training opportunities.
