Refugee & Migration
In an era marked by unprecedented global mobility, understanding the legal intricacies surrounding migration is paramount. Our research is dedicated to unraveling the complexities of international and domestic frameworks that govern the movement of individuals across borders and within them, with a keen focus on refugee protection and human rights. Through rigorous analysis and scholarship, we aim to contribute to the development of robust legal frameworks that ensure the just and humane treatment of migrants and refugees worldwide.
Projects
RSD Psychology Evidence Group’s interdisciplinary team of legal scholars and psychologists explores the assumptions that underlie deception findings in refugee status rejections. Its Baseline Paper Series presents key psychology research findings for use in refugee hearings. The Group's aim is to improve refugee status decision-making by helping to ensure that fewer claimants are wrongly disbelieved.
The MeetGary website shares insights from research into credibility assessment in Canadian refugee status decision-making. Available in six languages, it helps refugee claimants to understand the kinds of reasons why a decision-maker may conclude that they are lying.
