Tyco Integrated Fire & Security has been keeping Ryerson University safe for over two decades. The company protects Ryerson facilities, staff, faculty, and students, all across campus. More than a business partnership, Tyco is a true friend, with several employees who claim Ryerson as their alma mater.

Now, strengthening the bond even further, Tyco has contributed to the wellbeing of Ryerson and its students in another way, making a $25,000 commitment in support of the new Student Learning Centre (SLC).

“Given our long-term relationship with the university, Ryerson is a natural fit for us,” says Michael Peltier, Area General Manager for Ontario and Atlantic Canada.

“We have a lot of similarities,” he adds.  “Ryerson and Tyco both champion diversity and promote innovation. We make research a priority, and stay up-to-date with today’s technology. And we’ve both adapted well to market demands and changes over the years. Ryerson has done it by transforming their reputation for hands-on education into being a university leader in experiential learning. And Tyco has done it by evolving from an operating company to a growth and innovation company providing complete fire protection and security solutions and services for buildings and facilities.”

In recognition of Tyco’s generosity, Ryerson has dedicated a room in the SLC in the company’s honour. The group study room on the fifth floor – where students can go to collaborate on projects, prepare presentations, and review for tests – proudly bears the company's name as a testament to their commitment to supporting students.

“It’s great to protect buildings,” says Mr. Peltier. “but at the end of the day, what is most important is protecting the people inside them.”
