Academic Guests

The Family Business Institute regularly invites PhD students and faculty members to visit the university to participate in specific research projects to strengthen our capabilities and broaden our network.

Visiting PhD students

The Institute will provide office space and access to the university and library resources for the duration of the research period. PhD students will be invited to Institute seminars and workshops with the goal of contributing to a specific research area related to family business.

PhD students will be integrated into the Institute and be recognized as a “Visiting PhD Student at the Family Business Institute at the Ted Rogers School of Management, Toronto Metropolitan University.”

While the Institute does not finance or provide a grant to the visiting PhD student, they are fully integrated into the academic environment of the Family Business Institute. We currently accept visits for periods between three to six months. Students are expected to present their research project at a family business seminar. The cost of the visit should be covered by the visiting student and/or their own university.

How to apply:

Interested candidates can submit the following information to familybusiness@torontomu.ca. The request for a visiting period should be sent at least four months before the beginning of the suggested period.

Information to be emailed should include:

  • Motivation letter describing their interest on family business topics
  • Letter of endorsement from their supervisor
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Doctoral proposal (or an outline of the thesis)
  • Publications (if any)
  • Suggested period of visit
