Development of a Custom GIS Application for the Exploration and Analysis of Diatom Data © 2004
This research project consists of two major components, the first being this paper which outlines the steps involved in the development and implementation of a customized GIS that facilitates a spatial approach to analysing diatom data. The second part of this work is the development of a spatial database schema and software application that add a strong spatial component to the exploration and analysis of diatom data. The paper proposes moving towards a GIS-centric data storage and analysis approach versus the traditional database-centric approach.
