About the program/department/team

The postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by Dr. Vess Stamenova (Primary Supervisor and Principal Investigator, TRSM/TMU), with industry co-supervision from Simon Ling (Executive Director, Partnerships and Stakeholders, OntarioMD) and Dr. Chandi Chandrasena (Chief Medical Officer, OntarioMD).

About OntarioMD

OntarioMD is a subsidiary of the Ontario Medical Association dedicated to helping Ontario physicians leverage digital health tools to improve patient care. OMD supports physicians across Ontario with EMR optimization, digital health adoption, and practice transformation.

The opportunity

The IT Management Department at the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM), Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow in digital health and primary care research. This position is funded through a partnership between TRSM and OntarioMD (OMD), the digital health arm of the Ontario Medical Association.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic, applied research program focused on advancing the measurement and evaluation of digital health maturity in Ontario's primary care system. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to research with direct provincial impact, working at the intersection of health services research, digital health implementation, and primary care transformation.

Area of Research

Digital health maturity in primary care; development and validation of digital health maturity models and assessment tools; Delphi methodology; health services research; primary care digital optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full validation of OntarioMD's Digital Health Maturity Model across all five critical domains using Delphi methodology with a panel of clinical and digital health experts
  • Develop and validate practical assessment tools for use by facilitators working with primary care clinics to identify their digital maturity level and optimization pathway
  • Conduct literature reviews to support model refinement and tool development
  • Prepare and submit a minimum of one peer-reviewed manuscript to a health informatics or health services research journal
  • Present research findings at one to two national or international conferences
  • Support the development of one to two external grant applications to sustain and expand this research program
  • Collaborate with OntarioMD staff and clinical partners throughout the research process
  • Participate in lab meetings, departmental seminars, and relevant academic and professional events

Qualifications

  • PhD in health services research, health informatics, digital health, public health, or a closely related field (degree must be conferred prior to start date)
  • Demonstrated experience in health services research methodology
  • Background in digital health (research, practice, or policy)
  • Strong academic writing skills, with evidence of peer-reviewed publication or manuscript preparation
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, applied research environment

Preferred:

  • Experience with Delphi methodology or other expert consensus methods
  • Knowledge of or experience in primary care settings
  • Familiarity with Ontario's health system and digital health landscape
  • Experience with survey design and psychometric validation
