Questions of Beauty

The focus of this course will be the exploration of the resurgence of questions about the role of beauty in the postmodern era. While these questions have generally engaged the visual art world since the early 1990s they are not confined to it. Formative historical concepts as well as discussions around notions of beauty and related ideas such as the sublime and the abject in contemporary critical theory and artistic practice will be examined.
