Drug Criminalization and Control

This course examines the historic and contemporary socio-legal context of illicit drug prohibition. From the War on Drugs to the decriminalization of drug use and possession, students will critically examine and evaluate the impacts of anti-drug policies and policing approaches, especially on marginalized and racialized communities. The role of civil society, social movements of people who use drugs, and advances in harm reduction will also be considered.
