"I can see the sun, but even if I cannot see the sun, I know that it exists. And to know that the sun is there - that is living."

Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

I received my BSc. and MSc. degree from Nanjing University and PhD degree from National University of Singapore and joined the Department of Computer Science at Toronto Metropolitan University in 2003, where I hold the rank of professor.

My primary research interest is in the area of recommender systems, including general recommender systems, news recommender systems, multi-criteria recommender systems, and service recommender systems. One of the application domains I focus on is the news domain, and my work is not restricted to news recommendation, it also covers fake news detection and bias detection in news. Another domain of interest is the social media domain. I am interested in information diffusion, user behavior analysis based on psychological features, and social recommendation to combat filter bubbles.
