Two-Factor Authentication

With your help, TMU can minimize online threats.

Two-factor authentication provides an additional layer of security for your TMU account by requiring two verifications when logging into your account:

  • Something you know (your password); and
  • Something you have (your mobile phone or security key).

What can we help you with?

Why do we use two-factor?

Since two-factor requires something physical in your possession (your phone or security key), it can help prevent attackers from hijacking your account and getting to your data, even if they’ve stolen your password.

Are passwords really that vulnerable?

Username and password credentials are hugely coveted on the dark web. Read our series on how hackers have stolen usernames and passwords:

Important: Did you enrol at TMU before September 2019?

  • In September 2019, TMU began requiring all new students to use two-factor authentication to protect their TMU accounts.
  • If you are a student who enrolled prior to September 2019 and have not yet enabled two-factor, you will be required to do so as of February 2022.
  • Start protecting your TMU account now by setting up two-factor.
