Introducing the new Stream Video Platform

June 08, 2022

To: All Ryecast content owners

As you may already be aware, we have been working to implement a replacement for the university’s current streaming platform, Ryecast. We are excited to announce that the Stream Video Platform powered by YuJa has been launched and is available for new content uploads.

How to access the Stream Video Platform

The Stream Video Platform is available as a third-party tool on D2L Brightspace as a pilot project during the spring/summer 2022 semesters.

All Ryecast content owners, faculty and staff are now able to access the platform by adding it to their course shell or organization shell on D2L Brightspace. If you do not have an organization shell on Brightspace and would like to use this tool, please Request an Organization Shell.

Learn more about the Stream pilot project.

Request access to the Stream public video portal if required

By default, users are able to post and share content with members of their course or organization. In certain cases, a user may require the ability to share content publicly, including video feeds of convocation ceremonies, guest lecturers, promotional videos, etc.

You can request access to Stream’s public video portal by completing the Stream Video Platform Access Request Form (external link) . Please note that access to the public video portal is restricted to one designated user per department. Ryecast content owners with the ability to post publicly have automatically retained access to Stream’s public video portal.

When will the university migrate to Stream?

Migration from Ryecast to Stream will occur throughout July 2022. Content added to Ryecast after June 15, 2022 will not be migrated to the new system.

What will happen to my Ryecast channel?

Ryecast content owners have three options regarding their existing Ryecast channels:

  1. Request that your Ryecast channel be migrated to Stream
  2. Backup your Ryecast content
  3. Discontinue use of your Ryecast channel

1. Request that your Ryecast channel be migrated to Stream

If you’d like to have all your existing Ryecast content migrated to the Stream Video Platform, please complete the  (google form) Ryecast Data Migration Form (external link)  by June 15, 2022. Content owners who have already completed the form are not required to complete it a second time.

If you have requested that your existing content on Ryecast be migrated to Stream, the last day to upload content to Ryecast is June 15, 2022. While Ryecast will be available until December 18, 2022, you will only be able to access content uploaded before June 15, 2022.

Further information about updating Ryecast video links on TMU websites and Stream training is available on the Stream pilot project page.

2. Backup your Ryecast content

If you will not be migrating to Stream, we recommend that all content owners backup their files from Ryecast as soon as possible to retain access to these files. Existing content on Ryecast will be unavailable as of December 18.

Instructions for backing up your Ryecast content is available on the Migrating from Ryecast to Stream page on our website.

3. Discontinue use of your Ryecast channel

In the event your unit is no longer actively using Ryecast and does not require a streaming solution moving forward, please complete the  (google form) Ryecast Data Migration Form (external link)  to indicate you no longer need or use the content and your channel will be removed. Please ensure you’ve backed up content on your Ryecast channel before completing the form.
