Three ways TMU’s phone system supports you with hybrid work

January 28, 2025

To: All employees

We are highlighting three ways you can use TMU phone system features to support hybrid work and hoteling.

Use Gmail as your voicemail valet

If you have voicemail enabled for your TMU phone extension, you can opt to have your voice messages delivered to your TMU Gmail inbox by completing the  (google form) Voicemail Integration with Gmail Opt-in Form (external link) .

You will find voicemail messages under the VoiceMessages label in your Gmail account. Note, you can also check your voicemail from any desk phone on campus. Hang on to the Cisco Unity Voicemail Reference Guide (external link)  for help with the handsets.

Make calls with your TMU extension, wherever you are

There’s no need to make or receive calls with your personal phone number when you can use your TMU phone extension from your computer or mobile device. Here’s how:

  • for computers, download and install the Cisco Jabber app via TMU’s Software for Phones and Fax page; or
  • for mobile devices, download the Jabber app from Google Play or the Apple App Store.

Once set up, check out the Cisco Jabber Troubleshooting page for tips on carrying out basic call functions.

Skip the expense reimbursements for long distance calls

Downloading the Cisco Jabber app also lets you make business-related long distance calls with your TMU extension—this way, instead of being billed to your personal phone, costs are billed directly to your school or department purely on a cost recovery basis.

To enable long distance calling for your extension, please send a request along with your area’s cost centre, to the Computing and Communications Help Desk.
