Recommendation to delay upgrades to Windows 11
To: All students, faculty and staff
On October 5, 2021, Microsoft will release Windows 11, its latest operating system. However, due to its current incompatibility with Global Protect virtual private network (VPN) software, we recommend that you delay the upgrade to Windows 11 if you currently use:
- a personal computer running Windows 10; and
- the university’s student or employee Global Protect VPN.
If you are using a computer that is owned and managed by the university, there is no action required on your part as we will disable upgrade prompts on your behalf.
Testing for a solution
Once Windows 11 is officially released, Computing and Communications Services will test the operating system’s compatibility with Global Protect products.
A follow-up email will be shared with you once Windows 11 is determined to be fully compatible with our security software.
Windows 10 still secure and supported
Until testing of the new operating system is complete, Windows 10 continues to be a secure option as long as you apply Windows 10 software updates in the meantime. Microsoft will be supporting Windows 10 until October 2025.
