About the program/department/team

The Faculty of Science at Toronto Metropolitan University is a powerhouse of applied research and education driven by our diverse community of faculty, staff, students, alumni and donors. The Marketing and Communications team in the Dean's Office supports the Faculty of Science (FOS) departments, students and faculty members in areas such as social media marketing, web design and management, media relations, publications, and internal communications.

The opportunity

We are seeking a Digital Content Specialist to develop digital content for communications, marketing, and social media initiatives to enhance the Faculty’s online presence, reputation, and user experience among community members. The position provides design and technical support to drive brand awareness, promote program recruitment, and improve engagement with students, staff and faculty, as well as internal and external stakeholders. The position also provides the department with a range of logistical and administrative support, including social media and website administration, as well as assistance with special projects as required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary degree program in Digital Marketing, Communications, Design / Media Production, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field.
  • A minimum of (2) two years of direct field experience in a dedicated marketing/branded communications or similar environment with the following requirements: 
    • Experience working with a variety of digital platforms in a professional capacity, composing digital content and managing social media accounts.
    • Experience creating and designing digital, social media and print collateral, applying technical skills in graphic design for posters, banners, signage, event invitations, e-newsletters, and website wireframes.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write and edit quickly, accurately and creatively to summarize information precisely.
    • Experience supporting research communications, ideally within a post-secondary institution or academic environment.
    • Experienced with various web content management systems and tools, such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), web analytics, search engine optimization, and email marketing tools. Knowledge of UI/UX design principles is considered an asset for creating and maintaining visually appealing, user-friendly websites.
    • Ability to use current technology and applications, including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and After Effects).
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with good client service focus in order to work with various stakeholders
    • Photography skills are considered an asset
