FAQ

We are bringing a month of celebrations to you in October! From day camp for kids, to faculty demonstrations and panels, October will be filled with exciting programming for alumni to choose from.

All TMU alumni and friends are invited to participate in Alumni Month events. Some events are designed by faculties for alumni of their programs, but they remain open for anyone interested in their event. If an event is by invitation only, it will be stated on their page.

Of course! We encourage you to share Alumni Month events with family and friends, especially our online programming. If an event is stated as invitation-only, we recommend reaching out to the event organizer to inquire about their policies.

Yes! Alumni Month is completely free!

Throughout October, alumni will receive a weekly digest to let you know which events are happening in a given week. Registered alumni will receive a link via EventBrite prior to the event to join the online session. Visit our Technical Requirements tab for more information about accessing and attending virtual events.

Our goal is to create an accessible Alumni Month experience. We recommend reaching out to the event organizer as soon as possible so they can assure your event experience is enjoyable.

Registration opens in August. When it opens, simply fill out our registration form on Eventbrite, and select which events you would like to attend.  Some events will require a separate registration; you need to fill out an additional registration form for those.

All events that do not require a separate registration are included in Alumni Month central registration. Each Monday during Alumni Month, registered participants will receive a digest email with information about events occurring during that week.

Yes! Members of the public are welcome to attend Alumni Month events. They will be required to register themselves to ensure they receive the link(s) and/or information to attend the events.

Please visit torontomu.ca/covid-19/ (opens in new window)  to learn more about policies for visiting campus during Alumni Month.

  • Proof of full vaccination may be required at check-in.
  • Masking policies may be in effect.
  • You may be required to complete a health screening form prior to arriving at your event.
  • Reduced capacity and social distancing may be maintained at the events.

Abiding by the public health and safety measures at each event is required for all in-person attendees. These policies may change as public health and safety measures evolve. Please refer to any event-specific details or our website for the most up-to-date information—they will be updated closer to the date of your in-person event.

Due to the evolving nature of the pandemic, TMU’s COVID-19 safety policies may change over time.

Alumni Month 2022 is mostly a hybrid event. Many events will be online. If you are unable to attend in person or feel uncomfortable for any reason, we warmly welcome you to join us virtually from the comfort of home.

  1. On the day of your event, ensure that you’re using your most stable internet connection. If you have an Ethernet cable, simply plug one end into your home’s internet router and the other end into your computer. A wired connection is always stronger than WiFi. If you must use WiFi, move yourself and your device as close as possible to your internet router. It’s also helpful to disconnect all other devices from WiFi (i.e. any smartphone, tablet, etc. not in use for the event).
  2. Join your event early by going to the Zoom/Youtube link provided in the Alumni Month Daily Schedule or by visiting the event’s page on the Alumni Month website.
  3. For most events, you’ll only have the option to type questions; you won’t have access to the camera or mic function. If your event does let you use your camera and/or mic, we recommend familiarizing yourself with the following functions before Alumni Month: Mute, Unmute, Camera On, Camera Off, Join with Audio, Chat

If you’re using a desktop computer, you shouldn’t need to download anything. However, if you’re using your tablet or smartphone, you may need to download the free Zoom app. To download, go to the App Store on your tablet or smartphone, search “Zoom” and download.

Note: Zoom may offer you the option to upgrade to a paid subscription, but you do NOT need to upgrade. Alumni Month events are FREE.

No problem! Zoom offers both video and phone-in options. These details will be included in the Eventbrite email just prior to the session.

If you would like to continue watching at a later date, we recommend contacting the event organizer to find out if the event is being recorded and where it’s being posted.

We recommend reaching out to the event organizer once you register so they can assure the event experience meets your needs and expectations.

Note: Most online events will be closed captioned. You may enable this feature by clicking the “CC” button on the player if your event is offered through Zoom.
